Soma, a muscle relaxant, is used with rest, physical therapy, and other measures to relax muscles and relieve pain and discomfort caused by strains, sprains, and other muscle injuries.

Drug Interactions When you are taking a skeletal muscle relaxant, it is especially important that your health care professional know if you are taking any of the following:

Alcohol or
Central nervous sy stem (CNS) depressants or
Tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline [e.g., Elavil], amoxapine [e.g., Asendin], clomipramine [e.g., Anafranil], desipramine [e.g., Pertofrane], doxepin [e.g., Sinequ an], imipramine [e.g., Tofranil], nortriptyline [e.g., Aventyl], protriptyline [e.g., Vivactil], trimipramine [e.g., Surmontil])

Before Using This Medicine Pregnancy—Although Soma have not been shown to cause birth defects or other problems, studies on birth defects have not been done in pregnant women. Studies in animals with metaxalone have not shown hat it causes birth defects.

Breast-feeding—Soma passes into the breast milk and may cause drowsiness or stomach upset in nursing babies. It is not known whether chlorphenesin, chlorzoxazone metaxalone, or methocarbamol passes into the breast milk. However, these medicines have not been reported to cause problems in nursing babies.

What side effects can this medication cause? Although side effects from Soma are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

- drowsiness
- dizziness
- clumsiness
- headache
- fast heart rate
- upset stomach
- vomiting
- skin rash

If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

- difficulty b reathing
- fever
- weakness
- burning in the eyes

Symptoms of overdose If you suspect an overdose, seek medical help immediately.

Symptoms of Soma overdose may include:
- Breathing difficulty, coma, shock
A severe overdose of Soma can be fatal!

Special warnings about this medication If you will be taking this medicine for a long time, your doctor should check your progress at regular visits.
