Before Taking This Medicine
Before taking Soma,
- tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Soma, meprobamate (Equanil, Meprospan, Miltown, Neuramate), or any other drugs.
- tell your doctor and pharma
cist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially medications for allergies, coughs, or colds; muscle relaxants; sedatives; sleeping pills; tranquilizers; and vitamins.
- tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Soma, call your doctor.
- you should know that this drug may make
you drowsy.
- remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this drug.

Soma, a muscle relaxant, is used with rest, physical therapy, and other measures to relax muscles and relieve pain and discomfort caused by strains, sprains, and
other muscle injuries.

Other medical problems
Tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:
- Epilepsy¡XConvulsions may be more likely to occur if methocarbamol is given by injection
- Kidney disease or

Liver disease or
- Allergies, history of, or
- Blood disease caused by an allergy or reaction to any other medicine, history of, or
- Drug abuse or dependence, or history of, or
-
Porphyria¡XDepending on which of the Soma you take, the chance of side effects may be increased; your doctor can choose a muscle relaxant that is less likely to cause problems

Significant Interactions:
Soma may intensify the effects of alcohol. Be careful drinking alcoholic beverages while you are taking this medication.
If Soma is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either coul
d be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Soma with the following:
- Antidepressant drugs such as Elavil, Tofranil, and Nar
dil
- Major tranquilizers such as Haldol, Stelazine, and Thorazine
- Sedatives such as Nembutal and Halcion
- Tranquilizers such as Librium, Valium, and Xanax

Symptoms of overdose may include:

Symptoms of Soma overdose may include:
- Breathing difficulty, coma, shock
A severe overdose of Soma can be fatal!

What special precautions should I follow?
Soma may cause blurred vision or clumsiness or unsteadiness in some people. They may also cause some people to feel drowsy, dizzy, lightheaded, faint, or less alert than they are normally. Make sure y
ou know how you react to this medicine before you drive, use machines, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are dizzy or are not alert, well-coordinated, and able to see well.
