What Is It
Prilosec is used to treat certain conditions in which there is too much acid in the stomach. It is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease, a condition in which t
he acid in the stomach washes back up into the esophagus. Sometimes Prilosec is used in combination with antibiotics to treat ulcers associated with infection caused by the H. pylori bacteria (germ).<

Prilosec is also used to treat Zollinger-Ellison disease, a condition in which the stomach produces too much acid.
Prilosec is also used to treat dyspepsia, a condition that causes s
our stomach, belching, heart burn, or indigestion.
Prilosec works by decreasing the amount of acid produced by the stomach.

Other Medicines
If Prilosec is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Prilosec with the
following:
- Ampicillin-containing drugs such as Unasyn
- Cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral)
- Diazepam (Valium)
- Disulfiram (Antabuse)
- Iron
- Ketoconazole (Nizora
l)
- Phenytoin (Dilantin)
- Warfarin (Coumadin)

How should you take this medication?
Prilosec comes as an extended-release (long-acting) capsule. It usually is taken once a day, before a meal. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacis
t to explain any part you do not understand. Take Prilosec exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Do not open, crush, break,
or chew the capsules; swallow them whole.

Overdosage
Blurred vision; confusion; drowsiness; dryness of mouth; fast or irregular heartbeat; flushing ; general feeling of discomfort or illness; headache; increased sweating; nausea

Possible Side Effect
Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:
- Back, leg, or stomach pain; bleeding or crusting sores on lips; blisters; bloody or cloudy urine;
chills; continuing ulcers or sores in mouth; difficult, burning, or painful urination; fever; frequent urge to urinate; general feeling of discomfort or illness; joint pain; loss of appetite;
muscle aches or cramps ; pain; red or irritated eyes; redness, tenderness, itching, burning, or peeling of skin; skin rash or itching; sore throat ; sores, ulcers, or white spots on lips, in mou
th, or on genitals; unusual bleeding or bruising ; unusual tiredness or weakness
