What side effects can this medication cause?
Although side effects from Phentermine are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- dry mouth
- unpleasant taste
- diar
rhea
- constipation
- vomiting
If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
- increased blood pressure
- heart palpitations

- dizziness
- tremor
- insomnia
- shortness of breath
- chest pain

Special warnings about this medication
Your doctor should check your progress at regular visits to make sure that this medicine does not cause unwanted effects.
If you think this medicine is not working properly after you have tak
en it for a few weeks, do not increase the dose. Instead, check with your doctor.
Do not take an appetite suppressant with or less than 14 days after taking a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibito
r. If you do, you may very suddenly develop extremely high blood pressure.
Taking a Phentermine may cause a positive result in urine screening tests for amphetamines

Before Taking This Medicine
tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Phentermine or any other drugs.
tell your doctor if you have or have ever had heart disease, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis (narrowin
g of the arteries), hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland), diabetes, glaucoma, or a history of drug abuse.
tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feedin
g. If you become pregnant while taking Phentermine, call your doctor.

- Amantadine (e.g., Symmetrel) or
- Amphetamines or
- Caffeine (e.g., NoDoz) or
- Chlophedianol (e.g., Ulone) or
- Cocaine or
- Medicine for ast
hma or other breathing problems or
- Medicine for colds, sinus problems, or hay fever or other allergies (including nose drops or sprays) or

Phentermine is used, in combination with diet and exercise, to help you lose weight. It works by decreasing your appetite

What special precautions should I follow?
Before taking Phentermine,
- tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Phentermine or any other drugs.
- tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescriptio
n medications you are taking, especially fluoxetine (Prozac), fluvoxamine (Luvox), guanethidine, insulin, MAO inhibitors [phenelzine (Nardil) and tranylcypromine (Parnate)] even if you stopped taking
them within the past 2 weeks, medications for weight loss and depression, paroxetine (Paxil), sertraline (Zoloft),and vitamins.
- tell your doctor if you have or have ever had heart disease, high
blood pressure, arteriosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries), hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland), diabetes, glaucoma, or a history of drug abuse.
