Why is this medication prescribed?
Fluconazole is used to treat pneumonia, meningitis, and fungal infections of the mouth, throat, liver, kidneys, heart, urinary tract, and abdomen. It also has been used to treat vaginal infections and
oral thrush in certain patients.

How to Use
You can take Diflucan with or without meals. Take this medication exactly as prescribed, and continue taking it for as long as your doctor instructs. You may begin to feel better after the f
irst few days; but it takes weeks or even months of treatment to completely cure certain fungal infections

Other medical problems
The effects of Diflucan during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. Diflucan appears in breast milk and could aff
ect a nursing infant. If this medication is essential to your health, your doctor may advise you to stop breastfeeding until your treatment with Diflucan is finished.

Special warnings about this medication
If you are taking antacids, cimetidine (e.g., Tagamet), famotidine (e.g., Pepcid), nizatidine (e.g., Axid), omeprazole (e.g., Prilosec), or ranitidine (e.g., Zantac) while you are taking itraconazole
or ketoconazole, take the other medicine at least 2 hours after you take itraconazole or ketoconazole . If you take these medicines at the same time that you take itraconazole or ketoconazole, they wi
ll keep your antifungal medicine from working properly.
